We set aside today as Memorial Day to remember and honor those who serve in our US Military Armed Forces.

Due to ongoing health issues, I was not able to serve. However, I am very grateful for many friends and others who served in the military. I cannot thank them enough.

Take time today, and every day, to thank our Military Service men and women!

The Heavens Declare His Glory
by Jack Graham, PowerPoint Ministries

"The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard.
Their measuring line goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world."

--Psalm 19:1-4

God speaks to us today in the skies…through His creation. We can know God…we can see the presence of God…by simply looking up at the sky.

The Greek word for “man” in the ancient world and in your New Testament is “Anthropos,” which means “the upper-looking one.” Animals look down, but God created man to look up into the heavens to see His glory and to experience His power in creation.

And when we do, God speaks to us in the starry skies!

Indeed, the heavens declare the glory of God. As the psalmist says, “Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.” Creation is constantly, continually, and eternally speaking. And when we look into the creation, we know that because there is a creation, there must be a creator!

Now, you may not be a morning person, but I’d encourage you…if you want to catch a glorious glimpse of your Creator…get up early one morning this week to watch the sunrise. I can assure you, seeing His handiwork in creation will speak words of encouragement to your soul!

GOD IS CONSTANTLY, CONTINUALLY, AND ETERNALLY SPEAKING TO US THROUGH HIS CREATION.

"If my people,
which are called by my name,
shall humble themselves,
and pray, and seek my face,
and turn from their wicked ways;
then will I hear from heaven,
and forgive their sin,
and will heal their land."

You’ve Got Everything to Gain, Nothing to Lose
by Adrian Rogers, Love Worth Finding Ministries

"And Elijah came to all the people, and said,
'How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him;
but if Baal, follow him.'"  - 1 Kings 18:21

Jim Elliot, martyred missionary to the Auca Indians, wrote: “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” He's talking about giving his life for Christ and the Gospel. The most dangerous choice you could make is to play it safe. You’re safer out on the waves with Jesus than in the boat without Him.

You may wonder whether give your heart to Jesus Christ. When you hear the Gospel, you go through a mental war: “Should I or shouldn't I? What if Adrian Rogers is wrong? What if the Gospel isn’t true?”

Let’s suppose what I believe is wrong, the Bible is fiction, there’s no God, and Christ never died for our sins. You come and put your faith in a fictitious Christ. You and I are going to die anyway, so we’re no worse off.

But suppose I'm right: there is a God, the Bible is His Word, and Jesus is His Son. By coming to Jesus, you've got everything to gain and nothing to lose. If I’m right but you reject Him, you’ve lost everything.

Now, it takes more than just my reasoning with you to come to the Lord Jesus, because the Holy Spirit must open your eyes to know the Gospel is true. Anything I can talk you into, somebody else could talk you out of.

Dear friend, God the Holy Spirit is telling you about your eternal destination. I want you to be convinced. He will convict and convince you, but the devil will do all he can do to keep you from it. Don’t yield to him. Instead, ask God to reveal Himself to you. He will.

Several days a week, Norfolk Southern takes rock cars to a quarry near Manassas. The trainloads are full of rock and head to locations for distribution throughout Northern Virginia. These trains are an excellent resource in many ways. The one which comes to mind is how many dump trucks these trains keep off of the roads throughout the area.

Please visit my Railroad Photography work at Allen Pearson Photography - Railroad Gallery. To purchase products created from my images, please contact me at allenpearsonphotography@gmail.com. Also, my work is available on products at Fine Art America - Allen Pearson. Not all of my images are uploaded to Fine Art America yet. Sunday's Thought!

"Pumping Fuel!"
Photo by sippakorn yamkasikorn on Unsplash

This past week, a pipeline that serves or sends gasoline throughout the southeast was hacked which prevented the delivery of the fuel. Of course, the delivery of this news by the media caused another panic. Instead of toilet paper, remember the beginning of the pandemic, it's gasoline.

As people heard the news, they immediately headed to their local gas stations and began filling up their vehicles. I can understand that as I did the same since my car was almost empty and I'm in the process of moving. In some cases, people would be filling up plastic gas cans, plastic tubs, huge containers, and other items which they could fill. I was floored at the items and risks people took to hoard gasoline. Several didn't think about the dangerous ramifications which could happen when using containers that were not made for hauling gasoline. I have to wonder how those who put the gasoline in plastic tubs are planning to get it out and into their car, or whatever, safely.

All of the media hype around the "gasoline shortage" got me thinking about people's vulnerability by following and living by nearly every word of their favorite news stations. I am not meaning to criticize anyone for taking care of their needs but hoarding isn't the answer. My curiosity is why are people so quick to follow what a news anchor shares but will not follow what God says in the Bible?

Usually, the person delivering the news is doing so because it's their job. They get paid to prepare news stories and to share them in a broadcast. That's the way it works. However, as a writer and in listening to news stories there are many ways to tell a story and emphasize a point. These points are often heard, not given much thought, and often acted upon. I have been somewhat surprised how many people will follow a news anchor or commentator doing what they say.

However, God speaks to Christians through His Word, the Bible. We learn by reading it, listening to it, listening to teachings based on the Bible. We can find a local church to learn about what God has to say to us. We can tune in to radio and television programs to hear from God too. Yet, we don't. God has our best interests at heart, not our worst, and not to harm or hurt us. When we listen and do what He says, we will give peace and contentment which goes beyond our understanding.

Quit investing your life in the media hype and begin a great new journey. A great way to learn about God's Plan for man is to visit Peace With God.

A favorite spot of mine to watch trains is at Horseshoe Curve, Altoona, PA. One of these days, I will visit some of the other amazing places to enjoy trains too.

My favorite trains to watch are the freights, or manifest. I think it is because of the variety of railcars you will see. And, you never know what you will see until you see what you saw! I keep my camera ready for each train.

Please visit my Railroad Photography Galleries at Allen Pearson Photography - Railroad Photography. My work is available in a variety of products, please inquire at allenpearsonphotography@gmail.com.

If you know of some great locations to watch trains, please share in the comments below. Thank you!

Sunday's Thought!

"A Yellow Gerber Daisy After the Rain!"

Happy Mother's Day! Mothers have the most challenging job in the entire universe. They go through the months of carrying the baby as God creates it within her. When the time comes, the baby is born and a new journey begins. She is tasked with raising the child. Throughout the child's life, whether we like it or not, a mom will always be a mother. She loves her child, always will, and will often go through great lengths to help the child be the best that they can be. Even when we are older and are out on our own, mom will give advice to us about what to do. She's your mom. She will always do that- spoken from experience, to say the least.

There is another group of moms that I do not want to forget. They are the moms, who aren't really our moms, but they do the duty of a mom because they care about us. I'm thinking of the moms who are neighbors or ladies at the church or even in activity groups. They always looked out for us. I would list all the ladies that I am thinking about who treated me like one of their own but I would probably forget someone and don't want to do that. They know who they are. And, you probably had some moms like that.

Also, I'm thinking about stepmothers. They have an extremely challenging job in so many ways too. Sometimes more so than other moms. They may have raised their own children but have had others join the family that she helps raise. Or, she may not be a mom and is suddenly caring for children.

Today, I say "thank you" to mothers everywhere regardless of how you are a mom, you are doing your best to raise a child. In this world these days, that's a challenge. Thank you for your dedication and willingness to raise another human being to become a respectable member of society.

My mother passed away around 10 years ago, I miss her especially this time of year when I am thinking about gardening and being outside. She was always interested in whatever I was planning to plant in the yard. Of course, she was an influence in getting me interested in gardening. She introduced me to the enjoyment of photography too. She did her best to raise me to be a respectable man and a good part of the community. The most important aspect of life she taught me was about God, Jesus, and the Bible in my life. I became a Christian at an early age because of what I saw from my parents and learned about God.

National Train Day!

Happy National Train Day! I am celebrating it by sharing a photograph I created on my 55th birthday in 2018. I would love to be trackside today but, unfortunately, that's not going to happen today.

When I was much younger, I remember the bright orange, yellow, and blue Chessie System locomotives hauling freights through my grandmother's hometown of Marmet, WV. One particular day, the Chessie System locomotives must have been fairly new, I ran to the front gate and looked north to see the incredible sight. I probably said "OH WOW!"

When CSX Transportation decided to restore one of their locomotives and paint it with the Chessie System colors, I had to see it. For my 55th birthday celebration, my wife and I went to a few of my favorite train-watching sites including Lake Shore Valley Railway Historical Society in Erie, PA when the locomotive is housed. It was a visit that I will never forget!

Sunday's Thought!

Photo by Ömürden Cengiz on Unsplash
"Happy Birthday!"

WOW! Tomorrow will be my 58th birthday! How in the world did that happen? Seems like only yesterday I was in grade school trying to learn something. Now, I'm 58, retired, and trying to learn something. What am I trying to learn? Who knows!? At this age, they say it is healthy for me to keep learning and growing so that's the goal. One thing I would like to learn more about is Bible Prophecy and how the events of today were predicted in the Bible hundreds of years ago. Another is to learn more about Weather and Railroad History. All interesting subjects. Should be challenging subjects for my brain over the next several years.

As I celebrate my birthday this year, I can't help but think about how much God has blessed me over the years. That doesn't mean materialistically or with money or prosperity. Nor does it mean that I have not had sad events or health problems- how I wish that were true. It DOES mean that God has taken care of me throughout my entire life. He has always been there working behind the scenes for the best for me - all the time.

I can see in my career where I wanted to have a certain job but I wasn't chosen for it. However, it turned out that the job I had was better suited for me until another one opened, which was even better. These instances happened repeatedly throughout my career.

I have several health problems which are challenging. Unfortunately, one of them is at a severe level now and there is no cure. God has incredibly directed my paths since the diagnosis some thirty-five years ago to find the right medical professionals. He has helped me to be comfortable physically when it didn't seem it would happen.

During COVID, since everything shut down so drastically and fast, I was concerned about how I would continue to stay ahead of my health problems. I tend to lean toward a holistic approach and avoid medications as long as I can. God blessed me with the right Chiropractor and Massage Therapist who diligently helped me through the crisis. God knew ahead of time, I would need them. Without their wellness ability and understanding, I would have suffered much more pain than I did.

One of the more amazing miracles is finding me a wife who will put up with me. With my health challenges, a wife would have to understand that there WILL BE quite a few challenges in our life with many times she would need to be very strong. A woman that isn't strong enough to take the lead when needed would not work for me. She needed to be smart and able to comprehend complex health issues too. And, God blessed me with the perfect wife. Of course, please don't tell her I wrote that!

God began taking care of me when I became a Christian nearly forty or so years ago. It isn't anything He has done just for me nor has He given me any favor. He has done as He Promised... to supply all of my needs. It began when I asked Jesus to come into my heart, forgive me of my sins, and gave my life to Him. Simple as that.

If you would like to learn more about becoming a Christian and God's Love for you, please visit Peace With God.

While visiting Horseshoe Curve, Altoona, Pennsylvania, a few years ago, I captured an image of a reddish-looking box car rolling through the curve. The color and the graffiti got my attention as being unique among the other cars in the train.

"The Red Boxcar!" is part of my "Art of the Freight Car Series," which focuses on the unique art of the railroads and graffiti.
