Sunday's Thought!

Fear. Anxiety. I wish I could reach into my pocket, backpack, or even my being and give you something from me which would help you with your fear or fears and anxiety. It would be so cool to have that ability. However, as much as I would love to be able to do that, it's not built into our beings to have something like that. It's something that you would have to do for yourself or even I would have to do for myself.

I was blessed to have had great parents when I was growing up. While I did not have everything I wanted, such as a sports car or fancy car or designer clothes, and the list can go on, they did provide me with everything I needed in this life. However, regardless of how much they loved me, they could only tell, share, or instruct me on how to deal with fear, anxiety, and what it's all about. Wouldn't I just love to have had my parents provide me with something to deal with fears or to handle them for me? Of course, in some ways, that would be nice but in reality, it would not have been good for me.

I don't remember too many times in life where I experienced fear. I know there were the fearful experiences of first dates with girls I wanted to impress, having enough money to make ends meet each month, the unknowns of a new job, and sometimes just the future, like when you get married. A fear I will never forget was 9/11 or September 11th. At the time, my wife and I worked jobs in and near Washington D.C. Her office wasn't too far from the White House. The chaos after the attack on the Pentagon caused me to fear I would never see her again.

However, I noticed during the time of 9/11, and most other times in my life, God was there to comfort me and keep me from being afraid or scared. He gave me a peace and calmness in my heart and mind which goes beyond understanding. He calmed my fears.

Yes, I would love to reach into my being and give you something to calm your fears and anxieties. While I can't, I can tell you about Jesus and what He can do for you. When you give your life to Jesus, He will live in your heart and life and take care of you in ways you cannot imagine nor understand without experiencing it. While this is not a guarantee that you will have a sweet prosperous life without any challenges or tragic life events, as you will experience whatever life brings you. Jesus calms your fears and anxieties. You do not have to fear anything. He will help you through everything. You do not have to fear what the Coronavirus could do to you or your family. You will not live a life of fear. A few verses which comfort me are:

"So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
- Isaiah 41:10

When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.
-Psalm 94:19

"for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
2 Timothy 1:7

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” - Psalm 23:4

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34

Humble yourselves, then, under God’s mighty hand, so that he will lift you up in his own good time. Leave all your worries with him, because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7
