Spiritual Heart Disease
By Billy Graham

The word heart is used in different ways all the way through the Scriptures. The Bible says that “Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). When God looks at you, He doesn’t look to see the color of your skin. He doesn’t look to see the kind of clothes you wear. Nor does He consider your social position. The Bible says that God looks upon the heart to see what you are on the inside—your thoughts, your motives.

The Bible indicates a great deal about the condition of the heart. In Proverbs 6:18, it speaks of a “heart that devises wicked plans.” In Jeremiah 17:9, it says “the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked.” In other places, it refers to the heart as dark, proud and rebellious.

But the Bible gives this glorious promise—that God will give you a new heart. If you will come to Christ and surrender to Him, He says, “I’ll take out the old heart. I’ll put in a new one.”

Would you like to have a new heart? Change the whole direction of your living, your affections? Surrender your life to Christ and He will give you a new heart. It’s called regeneration. It means that God will give you a new life.

Today’s Prayer

Dear God,
Thank You for the new heart You have given me.
Please renew my strength as I surrender my life to You each day.
In Jesus’ Name.
Amen.
