|"A Toad in the Yard!"|
(C) Allen Pearson Photography
I love creating a wildlife garden in my backyard and maintaining it over the years. In 2016, I began creating my third wildlife garden at my home where I have retired. The garden features native plants, flowers, and trees and is designed to look like a habitat area to feed butterflies and birds. When it's completed, not only do I get to enjoy the beauty of native plants but the wonders of the birds taking advantage of the area.
Over the years, I have enjoyed watching the birds come into the wildlife garden fighting over places to make nests for the spring. I have had an Eastern Box Turtle and a snake or two wander in. I've taken the time to learn about the snakes to make certain they are the beneficial type I want near my home.
While creating the wildlife garden in 2016, the toad pictured had wandered into my yard. I don't know what species this toad is, but I welcomed him with open arms. Throughout the season, I saw the toad all over my yard including on the deck! One night, I was sitting on the deck reading and felt something around my feet. New to the area, I wasn't sure what it was- thankfully, it was the toad.
