Psalms‬ ‭23:1-6‬ ‭KJV
by Kim Kirby

“The Lord is my shepherd...He takes care of me and watches over me.

I shall not want...He provides everything I need and everything I don't know I need.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures...He gives me rest.

He leadeth me beside the still waters...He quenches my thirst.

He restoreth my soul...He renews and refreshes my spirit.

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake...He teaches me how to live in truth, honesty, and with integrity.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death...He is always with me when I am high on the mountains and in deep despair in the valleys.

I will fear no evil for thou art with me...He hems me in behind and before and lays His hand upon me.

Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me...He brings peace into my storms.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies...He sends the armies of the Lord to be with me so I do not have to face the enemy alone.

Thou anointest my head with oil...He pours Himself out over me.

My cup runneth over...He gives me exceedingly abundantly more than I could ever ask for or imagine.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life...He gives me what is best for me.

And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever...Christ sacrificed Himself on the cross so that I will have eternal life in heaven with Him.

You’re Too Late!
by Adrian Rogers

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar,
He said, ‘It is finished,’ and He bowed His head
 and gave up the ghost.
 - John 19:30

Evangelist Billy Sunday preached in tent meetings. It is told that one time after a meeting had ended, a young man who had been in the services and under great conviction found Billy Sunday and said, “Oh Mister Sunday, I need to be saved. What can I do to be saved?”

Billy said, “I’m sorry. You’re too late.” The young man said, “Oh, but I wanted to be saved. I should have been saved. What must I do to be saved?”

And Billy Sunday said, “You’re too late to do anything to be saved, for Jesus has already done it all. It’s finished. All you need to do is receive what He’s already done,” and he led the young man to Jesus.

It is finished. All you need to do is receive what Jesus has already done.

If you would like to receive what Jesus has already done for you,  please visit Assurance of Salvation.

Sunday's Thought

(C) Allen Pearson
"Behold, God is my
I will trust, and will not be
afraid; for the Lord God is
my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation."

- Isaiah 12:2, ESV

What a week it has been! My wife shared with me on Monday about the news of the Las Vegas shooting. I was shocked at such a horrible act to happen. I have felt so sorry for the families of the victims and others who were harmed in the event and spent time through the week praying for them.

I heard a man on a local radio station who was at the concert when the shooting happened, "I wonder if I did enough to help others,.... why wasn't I shot instead of one of these younger people.... I will be heading home to my daughter and will be hugging her.... but these people will not be..... it's just awful..." His story went on for a few minutes and really provoked a lot of thought.

Life is short. You never know when it will end.  Not to be doom and gloom but that's just the way life is- regardless of who you are.  Now, this doesn't mean that you hide and quit doing the things of life that you enjoy doing like going to outdoor concerts, outdoor art festivals, and the like.

However, maybe its time to think about what would happen to you when you die. None of us knows when our time will come so we should be prepared for the "last second notification!"

I became a Christian at an early age as my parents were active in their church so the Gospel was familiar to me.  I recommitted my life to Christ in college after a college professor said "You can't get to heaven on your parent's shirttails- it's your decision" which caused me to wonder about my own life.

While my life hasn't been picture perfect and I am not a wealthy guy having everything in the universe that I would ever want to have, I am a very happy and content man which God has created within me. By accepting Him as my Savior and following Him over the years, He has taken care of me. When it comes time to die, whenever that is, I have no worries as I know I will go to heaven.

If you would like to become a Christian and follow Jesus, read and pray through the following-

Admit that you are a sinner, just like everyone else born into this world, until we  confess to Jesus Christ and ask His forgiveness:

"(23) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
(24) and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
- Romans 3:23-24, ESV

"(23) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
- Romans 6:23, ESV

Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ:

(16) “For God so loved the world,
that he gave his only Son,
that whoever believes in him
should not perish but have eternal life.
- John 3:16, ESV

Confess your sins in a prayer to the Lord Jesus Christ:

(9) "because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord
and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
you will be saved. "
- Romans 10:9, ESV

(13) For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
  - Romans 10:13, ESV

"Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and do not deserve eternal life.
I believe You died and rose from the grave to make me a new creation
and to prepare me to dwell in your presence forever.
Jesus, come into my life and take control,
forgive my sins and save me. I place my trust in You alone
for my salvation and I accept your free gift of eternal life."

Now, you're a Christian - Welcome to the family.  So, what's next-

  • Find believers (Christians) to fellowship with.

  • Get baptized.
  • Read the Book of John.

  • Get in a Bible Study.

  • Daily: Pray and read the Bible

  • Find a Mentor

  • Learn how to Pray

  • If you find yourself asking "Why am I not perfect" or "Why am I still doing wrong things?" Be sure to talk with your Pastor, a Christian friend or a mentor.

Friday's Foto! Norfolk Southern at Elkwood, Virginia

"Norfolk Southern at Elkwood, Virginia"
(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved
My dog Noah and I will take off in the Subaru Forester and go railfanning- often at the last minute. We have followed several local roads to learn where we can easily and legally watch trains go by and capture some photographs of the awesome machines.

We were surprised by this train. While we knew a train should be coming as we'd seen "green signals" during our drive but we didn't know when. The trains are so quiet these days compared to years ago, we didn't even hear this one coming.  We were parked in the direction the train was headed when all of a sudden the train come up from behind.

Also, I was surprised I was able to get any good photos of it. Since I already had my camera set and had a general plan to capture the image, I got this one.

Most of my photography can be purchased on prints and various products.  Visit "Norfolk Southern at Elkwood, Virginia" at my Railroad Gallery.

Wednesday's Words! Encouragement from God's Word

(C) Allen Pearson

"Peace I leave with you;
My peace I give to you.
Not as the world gives do I give you.
Let not your hearts be troubled,
neither let them be afraid."

- John 14:27, ESV

Today's Scripture is shared to encourage the families of the victims of the shooting in Las Vegas on Monday and for others who were there as well.

My heart aches for the people in Las Vegas.  As I pray for all involved, I hope you will too.

Sunday's Thought

"Dunn Loring Fall Sunrise"
(C) Allen Pearson
WOW! Hard to believe that the month of October is already here.  The fall season began a few weeks ago- the last time I looked the leaves were still green and on the trees. As I went out to church this morning, I noticed the leaves seem about ready to burst into their magnificent fall colors! Living in Virginia with all its trees, and not far from the Shenandoah Valley, I am getting a bit anxious to for the brilliant display to start.

When I look through the viewfinder of my camera, I am in awe at the beauty of God's creation. The intricate detail of the leaves and colors. Sometimes they look like God took a paintbrush and slathered a splash of  paint across the trees.

I remember one tree behind our house trees ago always caught my attention in the fall as it began its change to fall colors. It was one leaf, then several and then even more. Within no time, the tree was all one color, a bright cheery red.

When you think about it, that's how God does things for people too. Once you accept Christ as your Savior, He begins a work in you to change you from what you are to "be the best you can be!" He will change you in areas that aren't so pleasing and help you grow in those areas where you are already awesome.

But, it doesn't happen overnight.  If you give your life to Him, it's not an instant change process for which I am truly thankful since I'm not sure our human-selves could really stand a process like that.

I have to say though, the journey God takes you through to become the person He wants you to be, is a awesome experience. I would not want to live a life any other way but by following God, being a Christian. I have seen enough of someone without Christ in their life to know it's the best life you can live on this earth.

While some will say, you have to give up "this" or "that" or you have to be perfectly good and you know yourself and you know you cannot do all of that. You don't have to do all that or worry about it.  God will take of it for you- along the way you be blessed, loved and loved some more!
